Cohort 1: what you need to know

  • Cohort 1 will be limited to 100 participants
  • There will be watches. A lot of them. We’ll be announcing the lineup of exclusive discounts and limited edition SOMA exclusives soon. See our recent writeup on Swiss watchmaker Olivier Mory for an example.
  • Registration details will be revealed in the SOMA Facebook group “Quality microbrands!” first, so you’ll probably want to be a member. Approximately 24 hours later we’ll release registration details to the general public. URL is
  • Applicants will be selected according to some combination of the following
    • Early registration
    • Intent to purchase
    • Participation in online watch communities
  • SOMA will have dozens of the most popular microbrands for sale, as well as the original creations of independent watchmakers.
  • Many of these microbrands will have significant discounts, some as much as 50% or even potentially 70%
  • SOMA will offer cash incentives of up to $200 per Cohort 1 member

Cohort 2

All applicants not selected for Cohort 1 will be considered for Cohort 2, which will consist of 500 individuals and will still offer significant rewards. Details on Cohort 2 will be released closer to the time of its registration.

The raison d'être of SOMA's horology marketplace

  • Watch lovers (brands and buyers and collectors, etc) love to share and show off their watches
  • They also need a place to buy and sell and discover watches
  • Existing ecommerce sites lack a ‘show-off’ feature
  • Existing social platforms lack an easy transaction feature (ecommerce). Those that have it (like FB marketplace) don’t have it well-integrated into the social offering, but rather tacked-on like an afterthought
  • SOMA has put a lot of design effort into creating a platform beautifully balanced between the social (sharing and showing off) and the transactional (buying and selling)
  • SOMA uses blockchain to create a permanent digital record of each watch. This record is called the interactive item card, or IIC
  • The IIC can be shared, liked, commented on, bought, sold, and even resold
  • SOMA will build ‘proofs’ into the IIC so that watch owners down the chain of ownership can validate that their watch is genuine
  • Merchants (watch brands) pay nothing to participate
